My Favorite Thing To Do In Mexico City
I love Sundays in the city
📍 Avenida Reforma, Mexico City, 🇲🇽
I love stepping out the door of my apartment building on Sunday mornings.
The air is cool and crisp, it’s quiet, and there isn’t a car in sight.
It is a special time as Mexicans stay home with their loved ones or attend Mass, or perhaps sleep off a hangover from the night before.
But what truly makes Mexico City so magical on a Sunday morning is the closing of Avenida Reforma.
🚵♀️ 🛼 🏃♂️ Ciclismo en Reforma
Since May 14, 2007, the government of Mexico City has closed Avenida Reforma to motor vehicle traffic every Sunday.
On Sundays, the road belongs to the those on foot or two wheels from 8am to 2pm.
The usually busy promenade flanked by embassies, office towers, and restaurants becomes the playground of the city’s bikers, bladers, runners, and walkers.
⛺️ Amenities
Dotting Reforma are canopies offering complimentary first aid and bike repairs.
There are vendors selling coffee, pastries, and fruits.
I stumbled upon a little stand selling a cup of fresh, cut mangos for $30MX ($1.50USD). The proprietor sprinkled sugar and lime juice over the mangos before handing me the cup. They were outstanding!
Didn’t bring a bike? No worries! There are also vendors renting out bikes and rollerblades at affordable rates.
My vehicle of choice is the Mexico City Metro-provided EcoBici. See the video I made about Ecobici:
😌
Rolling down Avenida Reforma on a calm Sunday morning with tens of thousands of locals is one of the experiences that makes this city so special!
